Splat! was a band from Nottingham (UK) around the early eighties. I still don't know how to describe the music. I never did. Rock, new wave, post punk. Anyway, for a time I was the guitarist.
I recently discovered a whole load of notes, cuttings, accounts and photographs, so every now and then I intend to add a little something to this page so eventually there's a full record of what went on. Besides the nostalgia thing, I do think the way we organised ourselves, what we spent our money on, is interesting.
If you stumble across this page and have your own stories to tell, diary notes from the time, recordings or photographs, do get in touch.
Since I last wrote I've spoken to Mark Grebby (bass) and he's hopefully going to visit over Easter, he's a carer doing some occasional music therapy who claims his house is entirely analog (with the exception of the CD player), so I guess that means I can write what I like about the short-arsed bastard. Actually, speaking with him on the phone reminded me what a really genuinely nice chap he was and is.
I accidentally bumped into Paul Walker (drums) outside the Broadway Arts Cinema in Nottingham when I unseeingly asked whether I could nick a chair from his table and he said "don't I know you?" He'd just toured Europe playing drums in a jazz influenced band, if I remember rightly and was about to supervise a kids mural painting project for Derby City Council. He's the only one I haven't managed to contact, so I'm waiting for that before I upload any tunes.
Dave Moscow (Parsons) responded to email and gave permission for tune uploads. He's the one most likely to have interesting information for this website since he's the man behind Ron Johnson Records.
There's also Gary DeBanke (sp?) or Jon ... now what was his name, the chap who played noise saxophone occasionally for us and also had his own thing, C Cat Trance and ran the music shop on Market Street in Nottingham. Lewis rings a bell but then I'm notoriously bad at that sort of thing. If you are either of those people, please do get in touch.
If you are one of our tens of fans, email me now (john@johnallsopp.co.uk) and let me know. Updates to this really, really will be slow (like once every four months or so), so if I have your email address I'll let you know when I upload something new. For now though, you'll have to put up with this:
. £50 a week, I ask you!
Eckersley pointed me to this Appreciation of Ron Johnson Records.
Me? I'm John Allsopp currently doing this and playing drums in Rah!Collector. Next up is a Sandpiper website, since there doesn't seem to be one already.
